The Dallas Cowboys have been handed a tough blow on Wednesday as their Pro Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence went down with a foot fracture during practice according to multiple reports.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Lawrence has been ruled out indefinitely and will miss “the better part” of the 2021 NFL season. ESPN’s Todd Archer, on the other hand, reports that the injury will sideline the 29-year-old for “multiple weeks”.

Lawrence just recovered from a back surgery he underwent in the offseason and had an encouraging performance in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He made six tackles while also forcing a fumble and recording two quarterback pressures.

Lawrence’s injury comes at a bad time for the Cowboys, especially since the team is already down several starters. They have pass rusher Randy Gregory on the COVID-19 list, and he is set to miss the upcoming clash against the Los Angeles Chargers, while wideout Michael Gallup strained his calf and will be on the injured list at least for three weeks. The Cowboys will also have to manage without offensive tackle La’el Collins, who was handed a five-game suspension by NFL earlier this month for missing a drug test.
