In a season full of bad news for the Dallas Cowboys, the hits just keep coming.

Standout Dallas offensive guard Zack Martin, a six-time All-Pro selection at his position, was placed on the injured reserve on Monday with a calf injury, putting the rest of his season in jeopardy.

Martin was injured in the Cowboys’ Thanksgiving loss to the Washington Football Team, exiting in the first quarter in considerable pain. While his status remained in question in the days leading up to Dallas’ Tuesday game against the Baltimore Ravens, there was optimism that he might be able to return soon.

However, Monday’s announcement means that Martin’s season very well could be over, especially if the Cowboys are not able to drag themselves back into playoff contention.

Despite a 3-8 record, Dallas is only two games away from leading the NFC East division, with five games remaining in the season. While the minimum IR stint he could have would place him out of the Cowboys’ next three games, there’s a chance he could be reactivated if the team thinks they have a chance to make the playoffs.

In the meantime, Terence Steele will step into the starting right guard role for the Cowboys as the team looks to finish the season strong.
