Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman broke his silence on the underperforming former team on Tuesday by saying there’s “a lot of dysfunction” within the organization and recommended “a complete overhaul” as opposed to firing the coach.

The 51-year-old, who played 11 seasons with the Cowboys, described Dallas’ Sunday loss to the Tennessee Titans as “a terrible loss.” He criticized the team’s decision to fire head coach Frank Pollack last season and said new coach Jason Garrett will likely not change a lot unless total overhaul happens at the organization.

“Go through the list and this team, over a long period of time, has been what it’s been. It hasn’t always mattered who the head coach has been,” Aikman said. “So, to me, if you’re asking me, I’d say there has to be a complete overhaul of the entire organization. You just can’t simply replace head coaches and say, ‘Now it’s going to be better.’ No, it’s been shown that it’s not better. And you have to address how everything is being done.”

Aikman’s statement seemed to suggest that owner Jerry Jones should make a few changes above the head coach position. Unfortunately, the Cowboys have retained the same power structure for a long time. Jones’ son, Stephen, is, in fact, a part of the management and is unlikely to be removed.
