Dallas Cowboys finally lost patience with their struggling kicker Brett Maher. The team announced on Monday that they have released Maher, and signed Kai Forbath as his replacement.

Cowboys explored possibilities of replacing Maher for weeks, but the 30-year-old managed to keep his job despite the misses. Still, following a missed 42-yarder in Thursday’s loss against Chicago Bears, Dallas decided they had enough.

Brett Maher made 19 out of 29 field-goal attempts, with his 10 misses being most by a kicker this season. He especially underperformed in attempts that were 40-49 yards long but was surprisingly from long range. Maher became the first kicker in NFL history to make three FGs over 60 yards.

Forbath, on the other hand, joins the Cowboys after a short stint with New England Patriots. After spending the start of the season as a free agent, the 32-year-old was signed by the Pats in late November to replace Nick Folk. He ended up playing just one game with the Pats, going 1-of-2 on FGs and missing an extra point, before being released.
