Columbus Crew SC announced on Monday that they have acquired Costa Rican midfielder David Guzman from Portland Timbers. Crew sent an international roster slot to Timbers in exchange for Guzman’s services.

The move will see Guzman reunite with former coach Caleb Porter, who coached Timbers in 2017.

“We are excited to welcome David to Columbus Crew SC,” – said Crew president Tim Bezbatchenko in a statement. “David is a player who brings World Cup, Copa America, CONCACAF Champions League, and MLS Cup experience to the Club, and who will add depth to our midfield. Having worked with Caleb before, we believe David will quickly integrate into our squad, and we look forward to his contributions to Crew SC.”

David Guzman spent the majority of his career with Costa Rican side Saprissa before coming to MLS and signing with Timbers in December 2016. He had a strong start of his MLS career, playing 25 games in 2017 with Portland and providing one goal alongside six assists. In the previous two seasons, Guzman played 24 games in total, scoring three goals and contributing with one assist.

Guzman also represents Costa Rica on the international level and has played 51 games for the national team since 2010.
