Juventus and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo has tested positive for the Coronavirus, the Portuguese Football Federation confirmed on Tuesday.

This news comes as Ronaldo and his Portugal teammates are on international duty, away from club soccer. He began the international break with a 0-0 draw in a friendly game against Spain on 7 October, before facing off with France in yet another goalless draw in Portugal’s UEFA Nations League group stage game on 11 October.

“Cristiano Ronaldo was released from the work of the National Team after a positive test for COVID-19, so he will not face Sweden,” the Portuguese Football Federations announced.

Following this news, the rest of the Portuguese squad was tested for the coronavirus. Ultimately, the rest of the team’s tests came back with a negative result.

This outcome has allowed the Portuguese team to continue with their international fixtures. They are due to next face Sweden in the Nations League, after which they play Andorra in a friendly match next month.

Following the revelation of Ronaldo’s coronavirus test result, his Juventus teammates stood in solidarity with him, uploading a post of support to Twitter.

Last month, Ronaldo celebrated scoring his 100th international goal in a 2-0 win against Sweden.
