Chicago Cubs announced on Tuesday that they activated left-hander Jose Quintana off the injured list, clearing the way for the 31-year-old player to make his debut in 2020 MLB season. Quintana, however, won’t take back his starting job immediately and will have to work his way through the bullpen.

Quintana has been out since July, having injured his finger while washing dishes.

“I’ve [been] working hard to be back as soon as possible,” Quintana told reporters on Tuesday. “I know it’s taken me a little time, but now I feel ready to do my job. Whatever role I get, I’m just happy to be there. I know I go to the bullpen tomorrow and then just want to help.”

It won’t be a surprise if Quintana finds his way back into the starting rotation soon, considering Cubs’ packed schedule in the next few weeks. They play the Detroit Tigers twice early this week, then head to Cincinnati for a double header against Reds, before wrapping up the trip in Pittsburgh against Pirates.

Since arriving to Cubs midway through 2017 season, Quintana started 77 games while compiling 33-23 record. He also posted 4.23 ERA during that period and has 408 strikeouts to show for.
