Chicago Cubs spent the weekend making several important roster decisions for the 2020 MLB season. According to ESPN, Cubs decided to exercise 2020 options on first baseman Anthony Rizzo and left-hand pitcher Jose Quintana.

Rizzo, who recently won his third consecutive Golden Glove Award, will earn $16.5 million in 2020. Chicago also holds the option to keep him for 2021, as well.

Rizzo has been one of the Cubs’ most important players for years, and he showed that in 2019. He played 146 games, batting .293 with 27 home runs and 94 RBIs.

Quintana, on the other hand, is set to earn $11.5 million next season before becoming a free agent. He played 32 games this season, having 4.68 ERA with 152 strikeouts and compiling 13-9 record.

Cubs made other moves over the weekend, rejecting options on contracts of pitchers Derek Holland, Brandon Morrow, Tony Barnette, and Kendall Graveman. Holland had a $7 million option while Morrow would earn $12 million in 2020. Barnette and Graveman’s options were worth $3 million.

Finally, Chicago also found out the decisions of pitcher Yu Darvish and outfielder Jason Heyward, who both decided to remain with the organization.
