The Dallas Stars did manage to get to the Stanley Cup Finals this season, but not without a significant number of players suffering significant injuries during the postseason bubble experience in Edmonton.

General manager Jim Nill spoke to the press on Thursday to give updates on all of the injured players.

According to Nill, forward Tyler Seguin has a torn labrum in his hip and probably won’t be ready for the start of next season. Seguin will need to have surgery and will then need about four months to recover, which means that he probably won’t be ready to start the season on January 1.

Goaltender Ben Bishop was only able to play in the first round of the playoffs because he wasn’t able to recover from an earlier knee injury that he had surgery for in May. Bishop is recovering well and has three years left on his contract with the Stars.

The goalie who took over when Bishop went down, Anton Khudobin went under the knife as well. He needed to address a nerve issue that was causing him to have numbness in his stick hand. According to Nill, the surgery went well and there should be no further health issues with Khudobin, who is going to become a free agent.

Nill said that the Stars have already started talking to the goaltender’s agent in an effort to resign him.

In non-injury but equally important news, Nill said that the plan is for Rick Bowness to stay on as head coach. Bowness took over the team as interim coach after the Stars fired Jim Montgomery in December.

Bowness took the team to the Stanley Cup finals, where they ended up losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
