The Dallas Stars defeated the Las Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 in overtime last night, ending the series in five games and sending the team to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 2000.

This will be the third time in franchise history that the Stars are playing in the finals. They won it all in 1999 but were not able to defend their title in 2000, losing to the New Jersey Devils in six games.

The Stars dug themselves a hole early in the game and were down 2-0 in the third period. Goals by Jamie Benn and Joel Kiviranta in the final period knotted the score at 2-2 and sent the game into overtime. In overtime, it only took about three and a half minutes for Denis Gurianov to end the game with a one-timer slapshot that sent the Golden Knights packing.

The Stars will now have a short break as they wait to see who will come out victorious from the Eastern Conference Finals. The Tampa Bay Lightning currently lead the best-of-seven series against the New York Islanders 3-1 and can secure their play in the Stanley Cup Finals with a win on Wednesday.
