Once upon a time, forward Daniel Sturridge was one of the brightest young talents in English soccer. But injuries, questionable decision-making, and inconsistent performances caused European clubs to give up on him, prompting Sturridge to try his luck in Australia.

Sturridge agreed to a one-year deal with A-League side Perth Glory earlier this month, and it appears he’s ready to put in the work in order to resurrect his career. During his introductory chat with Australian media on Friday, the 32-year-old player said he will be all about the club and doesn’t intend to focus on individual achievements.

“I’m coming there as a humble man, leaving my ego at the door,” Sturridge told reporters. “Of course, players can make the difference, but in terms of one player carrying a team, I just don’t think in world football that’s possible because everybody is needed.”

Sturridge also promised he will perform “to the best of [his] abilities.” He then added, “Everyone in the squad is important. I’m not there for a holiday. I’m there to play football.”

Daniel Sturridge most recently played for Turkish side Trabzonspor, making 16 appearances for the club during the 2019-20 season and scoring seven goals. He had his contract mutually terminated in March 2020 and has been without a club since. In the meantime, Sturridge served a four-month ban for breaching betting rules.

Sturridge previously played with Premier League giants Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool. He also represented England on an international level, making 26 appearances for the senior team and scoring eight goals.
