Veteran catcher Danny Jansen made the MLB history books in the Toronto Blue Jays’ 4-1 win over the Boston Red Sox on Monday. He became the first player in league history to play for two teams in a single game.

Monday’s game between the Blue Jays and the Red Sox was the resumption of a rain-delayed matchup between the two teams in June. At the time, Jansen was a member of the Blue Jays but got traded to the Red Sox a month later.

The reason why Jansen could pull off the unlikely feat was because the original game was halted at the very moment he made a plate appearance for the Blue Jays and had a 0-1 count.

Jansen ended up having no official at-bats for Toronto and going 1-4 for the Red Sox in the resumed game.

“I was surprised when I found out I was the first one to do it,” Jansen. “It’s cool, leaving a stamp like that on the game. It’s interesting, and it’s strange. And I’m grateful for the opportunity to have that.”

Jansen played 62 games with the Blue Jays in the first part of the 2024 MLB season, batting .212 with six homers and 18 RBIs. He is batting .231 with two home runs and five RBIs since being traded to the Red Sox.
