ATP world number one Novak Djokovic expressed doubt over whether or not he will participate in the US Open Grand Slam later this year.

While the Serbian national plans to perform in a variety of European-based events in the coming months, he remains unable to commit to the American tournament. This decision is in line with that of Rafael Nadal, who has already admitted that he feels uncomfortable to travel to the United States during the current health crisis.

Djokovic returned to tennis training in Belgrade this week, where he is currently preparing to perform in a number of clay court competitions across Europe. In addition to Roland Garros, Djokovic has expressed his intention to appear at the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments in Madrid and Rome.

Not all tennis stars share the concerns of Djokovic and Nadal, however. Australian Open runner up Dominic Thiem stated that he has no issue with performing at both the US Open and Roland Garros if the opportunity presents itself. According to the Austrian player, he just feels grateful that he has several tournaments from which to choose.

As a result of schedule changes caused by the coronavirus shutdown, the US Open is set to begin on August 31st while Roland Garros will commence just under a month later.
