As many predicted, it didn’t take Doc Rivers very long to land a new coaching job after being fired by the Los Angeles Clippers.

According to reports, Rivers has agreed to a five-year contract to become the new coach of the Philadelphia 76ers.

The 76ers have not won an NBA Championship since 1983 and hope that Rivers will be the one to take them to the promised land. Rivers won a championship coaching the Boston Celtics in 2008 and knows how to lead a team full of star players.

Philadelphia’s core is made up of All-Stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.

Rivers is taking over for Brett Brown, who was fired immediately after the 76ers team was swept in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs this year.

Coaching a Clippers team this year that had championship expectations after adding two huge stars in Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, Rivers’s team ended up blowing a 3-1 lead to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference semi-finals.

He was fired two weeks after the embarrassing playoff exit, despite leading the once-lowly Clippers to six postseason appearances in seven years.

In 21 seasons as an NBA head coach, Rivers has a winning record of 943-681.
