All-Star Clayton Kershaw will be Los Angeles Dodgers’ starter for the Opening Day of 2020 MLB season. This was confirmed to reporters on Tuesday by Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts.

Dodgers are set to open the season against the San Francisco Giants on July 23rd, and this will be the ninth time that Kershaw assumes the starting duties since making his MLB debut in 2008. The 32-year-old pitcher will also extend the franchise record for most Opening Day starts, after surpassing legends Don Drysdale and Don Sutton, who each had seven starts, in 2018.

Kershaw, who is 5-1 with a 1.05 ERA on Opening Day, would probably already be in double digits by now, but injury caused him to miss the start of the 2019 season. Lefty All-Star Hyun-Jin Ryu ended up filling in for him.

After naming the starter, Roberts now has several more decisions to make. Among the more important ones will be filling the No.3 pitcher spot behind Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler after veteran David Price decided to sit out the 2020 MLB season.

The most likely candidates for the job are veterans Ross Stripling and Dustin May alongside the newcomer Tony Gonsolin.
