Los Angeles Dodgers had a busy day on Tuesday, making several roster moves ahead of their Opening Day game on July 23rd against San Francisco Giants. This included signing reliever Jake McGee, placing pitcher Jimmy Nelson on the injured list, and optioning top prospect Gavin Lux.

The team’s first order of business was adding reliever depth and signing free-agent left-hander Jake McGee. The 33-year-old player, who was 0-2 with 4.35 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 2019, was released by Colorado Rockies last week.

In order to make a place for McGee, the organization placed veteran right-hander Jimmy Nelson on the 45-day injured list. Nelson, brought in January on a one-year, $1.25 million deal, previously underwent a season-ending back surgery.

Finally, Dodgers also optioned their prospect shortstop Gavin Lux, removing him from the 30-man Opening Day roster.  Lux was named minor league player of the year by Baseball America last year and is widely considered as one of the five top prospects in the game. However, the 22-year failed to impress during training camp this year and will have to wait a bit longer for his majors’ debut.
