The Miami Dolphins are reportedly closer than ever to making a trade with the Houston Texans and acquiring Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson. But this isn’t stopping the head coach Brian Flores from publicly endorsing the team’s current starter Tua Tagovailoa.

Speaking with reporters on Friday, Flores declined to comment on the Watson rumors and instead said the Dolphins are happy with the QB they already have.

“I don’t really get into rumors. Tua is our quarterback,” Flores said. “We’re happy with the quarterback, our quarterback situation. I’ll leave it at that, which I’ve said multiple times.”

Miami has been the number one favorite to land Watson ever since the star QB asked for a trade from the Texans. Still, the Dolphins played it slowly as Houston set a huge asking price that no other NFL team was ready to meet. Late, however, the two sides have managed to find a common ground, and reports say that the deal might be finalized as soon as the end of the week.

The Dolphins have selected Tua Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick in 2020 with intentions to make him the franchise’s quarterback of the future. However, Miami doesn’t seem to be convinced that Tagovailoa can actually become this after having an opportunity to see him at work.

The biggest knock about Tagovailoa is his durability, considering he struggled with injuries both in his rookie year and now in his sophomore campaign. He also failed to step up in big moments and is yet to produce a statement game in the NFL.
