The Miami Dolphins are expected to have their starting quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, back on the field next week. Tagovailoa is currently on Injured Reserve after suffering a concussion but is eligible to return after Week 7.

According to a report by The Athletic, Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel informed the players that Tagovailoa would take part in the team’s practice on Wednesday. If everything checks out, the former Alabama product should be under center for the Week 8 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Tagovailoa was diagnosed with a concussion after colliding with safety Damar Hamlin in the third quarter of a 31-10 Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills. It was his third concussion in two years, prompting the Dolphins to place him on the IR and allow him enough time to recover.

So far in 2024, Tagovailoa threw for 483 yards and two touchdowns while also having three interceptions. He earned Pro Bowl honors last season after leading the league with 4,624 passing yards.

Getting Tagovailoa back might save the Dolphins season. Without their starting quarterback, Miami had to turn to backup Skylar Thompson and practice-squad pickup Tyler Huntley, and things didn’t turn out all that great. The Dolphins were abysmal on offense and averaged 10 points per game while falling to a 2-3 record.
