After trading away Ryan Tannehill to the Tennessee Titans, Miami had to look to fill the hole created at quarterback.

The Dolphins agreed to a free agent deal with quarterback Ryan Fitzgerald on Sunday, which gives them at least a temporary fix to their problem. The deal is for two years and $11 million guaranteed. He could make up to twenty million dollars with incentives.

Fitzpatrick is an NFL veteran that is now 36 years old. He has had a journeyman career, playing for seven NFL teams after the Rams drafted him in 2005.

The Dolphins will be the eighth team of Fitzpatrick’s career.

Fitzpatrick spent the last two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, splitting time with Jameis Winston. He started 7 games for Tampa last season and threw for 2,366 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

The bearded quarterback, a graduate of Harvard University, has also started for the Rams, Bengals, Bills, Titans, Texans, and Jets in his career.

Fitzpatrick has accumulated 29,357 career passing yards, throwing for 190 touchdowns and 148 interceptions.

The Dolphins’ new quarterback isn’t a star, but he provides stability to a rebuilding franchise. Miami is expected to search for their quarterback of the future in the next couple of drafts.

For now, Fitzpatrick is the presumptive starter in Miami and will head new coach Brian Flores’ offense.
