Miami Dolphins are moving on from their longtime starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill. According to ESPN‘s Cameron Wolfe, Dolphins traded Tannehill to Tennessee Titans on Friday.
Miami also sent a 2019 sixth round draft pick alongside Tannehill to Titans, who gave up 2020 fourth-round pick and 2019 seventh-round pick in exchange.
Dolphins were actively pursuing a trade for Ryan Tannehill in the past couple of weeks and were even considering releasing the 30-year-old if they fail to find a partner. The organization decided to make a change at quarterback after Tannehill struggled with inconsistency and injuries in the past three years and missed a total of 25 games during that period.
Although a fresh start might be a good thing for Miami, they find themselves without a proven quarterback on their roster. They tried and failed to sign free agent Teddy Bridgewater but might pursue other free agent QBs like Ryan Fitzpatrick, Blake Bortles, Robert Griffin III, and AJ McCarron as a temporary solution. There is also an option of trading for one or trying their luck in the draft.
Titans, on the other hand, was looking to add a veteran backup as insurance since their starter Marcus Mariota is known to be injury prone. Marcus is still to play all 16 games of the regular season since he came to the league in 2015.
Ryan Tannehill was drafted by Miami Dolphins eight overall in 2012 NFL Draft and was named the team’s starting QB in his rookie season. Since then, he led the team to 42-46 record in games he played, but only made one playoff appearance in seven years. Tannehill’s career stats include 20,434 passing yards, 123 touchdowns and 75 interceptions.
