Dolphins Trade RB Ballage to Jets

According to reports around the league, the New York Jets are giving up a conditional late-round draft pick for Miami Dolphins running back Kalen Ballage.

The moves seems to be a pretty odd one for two reasons. Firstly, the Dolphins were probably going to release Ballage anyway, and secondly, the Jets already have a crowded backfield.

However, it seems that Jets coach Adam Gase really wanted Ballage and didn’t want to wait for him to be released, so he made sure that the Jets would get him by putting together a trade deal. Gase, who used to coach the Dolphins, has obvious familiarity with Ballage.

The running back was selected in the fourth round of the 2018 draft and has amassed 326 yards and four touchdowns in 24 games. 2019 was not a good year for Ballage at all, averaging only 1.8 yards per carry, the fewest by any NFL player with 50 or more carries.

As already mentioned, it’s unclear what Gase wants with Ballage, considering that the Jets already have a backfield that includes former Pro-Bowler Le’Veon Bell, future Hall-of-Famer Frank Gore, and their fourth-round pick from this year’s draft La’Mical Perine.
