Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic will not play in his team’s game against the Utah Jazz on Saturday night, the Mavs confirmed on Friday.

This comes after Doncic suffered a left ankle sprain during the Mavericks’ 99-95 win over the Phoenix Suns on Thursday. After going down in the opening minutes of the game, Doncic had to leave the court of play, remaining sidelined for the remainder of the game.

Mavs coach Jason Kidd said that Doncic remained in “good spirits” after the game and that he underwent an X-ray that turned up negative. He is expected to be day-to-day going forward with what has been listed as a “mild sprain”.

“He looked good, he looked fine,” Kidd said of Doncic following his injury. “But we’ll see how he feels as we go forward.”

Prior to his injury, Doncic was the NBA’s leading scorer, averaging 33.8 points per game. Following his first scoreless game, Doncic’s average has dropped to 33.0 points per game, putting him behind Philaelphia’s Joel Embiid who is averaging 33.4 points per game.
