The Boston Bruins look a lot different entering the 2021-22 NHL season as center David Krejci and goalie Tuukka Rask are no longer on the team’s roster. But this doesn’t mean the two franchise mainstays have played their last games in a Bruins jersey.

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Bruins team president Cam Neely said that the organization is ready to consider bringing back Krejci and Rask if they want that.

“We told them both that the door is open if they do decide to come back,” Neely said. “That remains to be seen for both of them. It really depends on where they’re at both mentally and physically.”

Krejci spent all of his 15 seasons in the NHL with the Bruins and helped the franchise win a Stanley Cup in 2011. He played a total of 962 NHL games with Boston, scoring 215 goals and dishing 515 assists for 730 points.

After his contract expired at the end of the 2020-21 season, Krejci decided to leave the NHL and sign with HC Olomouc in his native Czech Republic.

Rask also spent his entire NHL career with the Bruins, making his debut in the 2007-08 season. He played a total of 560 regular-season games for the franchise and claimed two All-Star nods in the process.

The 34-year-old star, who is currently a free agent, is recovering from hip surgery at the moment and won’t be ready to play until early 2022.
