The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that their head coach Doug Pederson has tested positive for coronavirus.

According to reports, Pederson held an unannounced team meeting on Sunday to let his players know that he has confirmed the diagnosis after two positive tests. Team officials say that Pederson is currently doing well and not experiencing any symptoms. He’s currently in self-quarantine and will continue to communicate with the Eagles medical staff as he recovers.

Pederson is believed to have contracted COVID-19 outside of the team’s facilities. However, the Eagles have announced that everyone that has been in close contact with the 52-year-old coach will be tested daily and will have to pass all health and safety protocols before being allowed to return to the facility.

One coach who has been in close contact with Pederson most recently, quarterbacks coach Press Taylor, has already been sent home from the facility.

Pederson is the second NFL head coach that has tested positive for the coronavirus. New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton contracted the virus back in March.

As long as he is able to do so, Pederson will continue leading the team’s virtual meetings. The team has announced that running backs coach Duce Staley is going to be taking over day-to-day operations at the facility while Pederson is away.

Pederson led Philadelphia to its first and only Super Bowl title in 2017-2018. He is entering his fifth season as the team’s head coach.
