The Philadelphia Eagles will enter the 2020 NFL season without one of their best players. According to reports from multiple media outlets, including ESPN and NFL Network, Eagles’ Pro Bowl guard Brandon Brooks tore his Achilles and won’t play this year.

Reportedly, Brooks was working out at the Eagles’ facilities when the injury occurred. He was in the process of coming back from a shoulder procedure he had earlier in the offseason.

While the Eagles still haven’t made an official announcement, Brooks confirmed the news via social media, writing that he’ll “be back and better than ever.”

Since joining Eagles in 2016 as a free agent, Brandon Brooks became an indispensable member of Eagles’ offensive line. He established himself as a perennial Pro Bowler and started all but two games since in Philly.

Brooks is under contract with Philadelphia through 2024 after signing a four-year, $54.2 million contract extension in November.

With Brooks out for the season, Eagles now might opt to bring back veteran tackle Jason Peters, who left the franchise earlier this year after his contract expired. Another rumored option might be former New Orleans Saints’ Pro Bowl guard Larry Warford, who also remains available on the free-agent market.
