The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has returned to practice following a shoulder injury. It is the first time that he has participated in a practice session since injuring his throwing shoulder during the December 18 game against the Chicago Bears. He is currently listed as a limited participant.

“We’ll continue to see how he progresses throughout the week,” coach Nick Sirianni said of Hurts. “Does he have a chance? Of course, he does because his body just knows how to heal. He’s a freak. We’ll see what happens as the week progresses.”

Hurts is recovering from what doctors have labeled an SC joint sprain in his shoulder—the joint where the collarbone meets the breastbone. He sat out of the team’s ball-security drill on Thursday, where coaches swing pads and boxing gloves at players while they run by.

During Hurts’ absence, backup Gardner Minshew filled in at quarterback during the Eagles’ 40-34 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday. Minshew and fellow quarterback Ian Book remain available for selection.

The Eagles will be eager to get Hurts back in time for the vital clash with the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Philadelphia is still in a position to clinch the number one spot in the NFC playoffs should they win.
