The Philadelphia Eagles have tapped Team USA to add a new wideout to their roster. The NFL team signed Olympian hurdler Devon Allen, who inked a three-year deal with the franchise.

Allen played as a wide receiver with the Oregon Ducks between 2014 and 2016 but decided to focus on track and field after college. He competed at two Olympics, finishing 5th at the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Games and 4th at the 2020 Games in Tokyo.

Allen made an appearance at Oregon’s pro day recently and impressed with a 4.35-second run in the 40-yard dash. After that, several teams reached out to the 27-year-old player, with the Eagles being the most aggressive in their pursuit. They invited Allen for a visit earlier this week and eventually decided to offer him a contract.

However, Allen is not ready to forgo his track and field career despite landing an NFL deal. He previously insisted that he wanted to compete at USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships, where he won three titles, and make an appearance at the World Championship before giving football a try.

“The goal is to get ready for Worlds, compete at Worlds, win, break the world record, and then July 18th when Worlds is done, go to camp the next week,” he said.

Devon Allen was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. He made 41 catches for 684 yards and seven touchdowns in his first year with the Ducks. However, injuries have derailed his two following seasons as he managed to play nine games, totaling 13 receptions for 235 yards and three TDs.
