It looks like San Jose Earthquakes liked what they saw from defensive midfielder Judson during his season-long loan in 2019. The team announced on Tuesday that they have acquired Judson on a permanent basis from his Brazilian parent club Tombense.

Quakes also signed Judson to a multi-year contract using Targeted Allocation Money.

The move was also confirmed by the team’s general manager Jesse Fioranelli, who said that the Brazilian’s work ethics and influence in the locker room made the decision a lot easier for San Jose.

“Two things that make Judson so important to this club are his work ethic on the field and his positive influence inside the locker room,” – said Fioranelli. “He has also adapted quickly to MLS and assumed increasing responsibility as the season progressed. Judson has been a professional in every sense of the word and we never hesitated to make his transfer permanent.”

Since arriving to MLS, Judson played 27 games (23 as a starter) and scored one goal. His biggest contributions, however, were on the defensive side of the ball. He was crucial in stopping the opponents’ attacks and managed to average 3.5 tackles per game. This was second-most in MLS and most among all midfielders.

Prior to coming to the United States, Judson mostly played for Brazilian lower-tier clubs. The list includes América–RN., Santa Cruz, Globo, and Avai.
