Despite the interest from European clubs, United States international midfielder Jackson Yueill is staying in MLS. Yueill inked a multi-year extension with San Jose Earthquakes that will reportedly keep him with the franchise for the foreseeable future.

The Quakes didn’t disclose details of the extension, but they did reveal that the contract runs “well past the FIFA World Cup in 2022.”

Yueill joined the Earthquakes in 2017 after being selected sixth overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. Since then, the UCLA Bruins’ product became a commanding figure on the team and even earned the captain’s armband.

“He’s a player that was born and raised in this club and is one of its future leaders,” said San Jose’s head coach Matias Almeyda. “I speak with him a lot, and the most important trait he has is that he listens. It’s up to us to keep empowering him so that he continues on his upward trajectory. He’s a national team player and he’s a youngster that has the potential to take an important step to Europe after further developing here in San Jose.”

Jackson Yueill has 80 games in MLS since 2017, having scored four goals and dished 10 assists in his pro career. While these are not eye-catching stats, Yueill does many other things really well and influences the game with his tackles, positioning, and leadership.

Yueill’s effort was noted by USMNT’s head coach Gregg Berhalter, who handed the 23-year-old player his first appearance for the national team last year. He played seven games for the country’s senior team so far.
