Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag remains convinced that he is capable of rescuing his team’s season after they closed out 2023 with a disappointing 2-1 loss away at Nottingham Forest, marking their ninth defeat in 20 Premier League matches. Man United now find themselves nine points adrift of a spot in the top four.

Ten Hag is convinced that he will maintain the confidence of INEOS director of sport Dave Brailsford once the company completes its 25% takeover of the club. “Of course, they [INEOS] know me and they know when I have the squad what is available then the results will be there,” Ten Hag stated. “We have already proved against the top teams that we can go head to head.”

According to Ten Hag, the team overperformed during the previous campaign; the Dutch manager’s debut season with the club. He insisted that Man United’s results will improve once several key players return from injury following prolonged periods on the sidelines. The manager admitted that consistency is his squad’s biggest problem, which is evident after they came back from a two-goal deficit to defeat Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
