Yesterday’s Premier League match Everton vs. Manchester United ended with an embarrassing 4-0 defeat for United, marking the sixth loss of their last eight games and a lost opportunity to occupy a top-four place.

Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team has many undeniably talented players, they played less than wholeheartedly and seemed to have no will to win – even Marcus Rashford, who’s been the Premier League’s standout performer this season, played unimpressively dull.

Due to their lack of intensity at Goodison Park, the Red Devils didn’t produce a shot on target until the 85th minute. They were also being out-run by a significant distance, as the Everton team covered 8km more during the 95-minute match. The painful loss came a week after Solskjaer told his players that they need a “reality check”, a piece of advice they obviously took for granted.

Everton gave a stellar team performance, gaining an advantage in the 12th minute with Richarlison’s excellent goal, followed by Gylfi Sigurdsson’s successful shot in the 28th minute when Nemanja Matic gave the former too much time and space. Early in the second half, Lucas Digne scored the third goal, while Theo Walcott sealed the deal in the 64th minute. The fine victory, which is Everton’s biggest win over United since October 1984, places them on the seventh place in the league table.
