New England Patriots are adding help to their backfield. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pats’ have agreed to a deal with former Houston Texans running back Lamar Miller.

Miller will join New England on a one-year contract, player’s agent Drew Rosenhaus told Schefter. The deal will become official once Miller passes his physical.

Miller delivered a Pro Bowl season in 2018, rushing for 973 yards and five touchdowns while adding 25 receptions for 163 receiving yards. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL in the preseason last year and was forced to miss the entire 2019. Reportedly, the 29-year-old player recovered in full and is now ready for action.

Pats brought in Lamar Miller with hopes to address issues in the backfield that plagued their offseason so far. Their starter Sony Michel won’t be able to start the season due to foot surgery while veteran Brandon Bolden opted out.

Miller will most likely be in the mix for No. 2 spot on the depth chart, facing competition from veterans James White and Rex Burkhead as well as 2019’s third-round pick Damien Harris.
