Veteran guard Jamon Brown is ending his stint with Atlanta Falcons after just one season with the team. Falcons confirmed the release of Brown on Tuesday.

Brown signed a three-year, $18.75 million contract with Falcons last year and ended up starting nine games at the right guard during the 2019 NFL season. He is owed $4.75 million salary for this season, although Atlanta will only have to make up the difference if the 27-year-old player ends up signing elsewhere.

Falcons are already deep on guard positions, with 2019’s first-round pick Chris Lindstrom expected to start right and rookie Matt Hennessy manning the left side. Considering they also have Justin McCray and Matt Gono as backups, keeping Brown under his current salary always seemed like a luxury.

Jamon Brown entered the NFL in 2015 as LA Rams’ third-round pick. He spent four years with the organization, playing 42 games at both left guard and right guard. Brown also had a stint with New York Giants, starting eight games at RG in 2018.

Brown is expected to have a market in NFL and is an interesting addition for teams that look for depth and competition on the right guard position.
