A poor start to the 2024 MLS season prompted FC Dallas to part ways with their head coach, Nico Estevez. The club announced the decision on Sunday, revealing that assistant Peter Luccin will lead the team in the upcoming period on an interim basis.

FC Dallas is currently sitting 15th in the Western Conference with 14 points and only three wins after 16 games. They are winless for the past five games in MLS, recording three draws and two losses.

“It is always a difficult decision to part ways with your head coach. A great deal of thought and deliberation went into this move as it is still early in the season. We believe a coaching change is in the best interest of the club,” said FC Dallas President Dan Hunt in a statement.

Nico Estevez was hired as the head coach of FC Dallas ahead of the 2022 MLS season, replacing Luchi Gonzalez. Estevez, who previously served as an assistant under Gregg Berhalter with the United States men’s soccer team, led the club to playoffs in both of his full seasons with the team. Dallas reached the quarterfinals of the MLS Cup in 2022 and was eliminated in the first round last season.

Luccin will now be tasked with guiding the team and providing some continuity until FC Dallas finds a permanent replacement for Estevez. Luccin has been part of the Dallas organization since 2013 and served as an assistant since 2019.
