Sean Couturier and Philadelphia Flyers managed to agree on an extension that will keep the 2019/20 Frank J. Selke Trophy winner with the franchise through 2029/30 NHL season. The extension is worth $62 million, netting Couturier a $7.75 million annual salary.

Couturier, who is Philly’s No.1 choice at the center position, will also get a no-movement clause as part of the agreement. The extension will kick in next season as he still has one more year left on a six-year, $26 million contract he signed back in 2015.

The 28-year-old played 45 games in 2020/21 after struggling with a lower-body injury. He contributed with 18 goals and 23 assists for a total of 41 points.

Speaking about the extension, Flyers’ general manager Chuck Fletcher called Couturier a “rare talent” and “premier two-way center.”

“He carries an enormous presence inside our dressing room due to his preparation, determination, and drive to win,” Fletcher added.

Sean Couturier was Flyer’s No.8 pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, he established himself as one of the franchise’s most dependable players. In 10 seasons as a pro, Couturier played 692 games and has 443 points (174 goals and 269). He received Bobby Clarke Trophy, given to “team’s most valuable player,” three times.
