Five-time All-Star point guard John Wall started his broadcasting career over the weekend, serving as an analyst for several G League Winter Showcase games. However, he still isn’t giving up on hope of returning to the NBA.
Wall has currently been out of the NBA for almost two years. His last action came for the Los Angeles Clippers on January 13, 2023, when he played 30 minutes and contributed with 16 points, seven rebounds, and four assists in a 115-103 loss to the Denver Nuggets. He was traded to the Houston Rockets less than a month later and subsequently released.
Since then, Wall has been hoping to land another gig in the NBA, although without much success. He still maintains his fitness and has taken an interest in broadcasting in the meantime.
“I’m learning more and more, but for me, it’s talking about basketball — what I love to do. It’s what I do when I’m home, watching with my friends and kids,” Wall said in a recent conversation with ESPN.
Wall doesn’t know what the future holds, but he knows that he still believes he can play and expects a call from one of the NBA teams.
“It would mean the world,” he added. “You want to go out on your own terms. I want to finish it the way I want. If I play my last game, I want to walk off the court my way.”
Drafted first overall in 2011 by the Washington Wizards, John Wall was considered one of the most dynamic players in the NBA early in his career. However, a heel injury in 2018 and a subsequent Achilles tear in 2019 ended up changing the trajectory of his career. He missed almost two years and was never the same player after returning.
Wall’s career stats include 18.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 8.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. On top of five All-Star nods, he also has All-NBA Third Team and NBA All-Defensive Second Team selections to his name.
