Veteran quarterback Brock Osweiler announced some rather surprising news on Wednesday, saying that he is ending his NFL career. Osweiler will retire from professional football at age 28 and after playing seven years in the league.

Osweiler was a free agent this year, after spending 2018 with Miami Dolphins. In Miami he played a prominent role last season and started five games in which he passed for 1,247 yards and six touchdowns.

Osweiler confirmed his decision to 9News’ Mike Klis, saying that he appreciates the time he spent in the NFL.

“I’m extremely grateful for the time I did receive playing in the National Football League,” – said Osweiler. “The experiences I did have, people I did meet, relationships I did make — I’m not going to dwell on the things that didn’t happen in my career.”

Brock Osweiler came into the league in 2012, when Denver Broncos took in the second round of that year’s draft. He is best remembered for his performances in the 2015 NFL season when he stepped in for injured Payton Manning and started seven games in which he went 5-2. The Broncos ended up winning the Super Bowl that year.

Osweiler, who also spent time with Houston Texans, started a total of 30 games during his career and has 15-15 record. He completed 59.8 percent of his passes for 7,418 yards and 37 TDs while also throwing 31 interceptions.
