Less than a week after being released by Tampa Bay Buccaneers, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is already working on finding a new job in NFL. According to NFL Network, McCoy’s first stop was Cleveland where he met with the Browns and discussed a potential deal.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that McCoy, who has six Pro Bowl appearances next to his name, visited Browns’ facilities on Friday where he had a meeting with team’s general manager John Dorsey. Although the visit didn’t end with a contract offer, the talks reportedly went really well and the two sides are expected to continue discussions in the coming days.
McCoy, however, won’t just sit and wait for the Browns to get back to him. Numerous other teams showed interest in the 31-year-old veteran including Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, and Indianapolis Colts. The Colts are arguably in the best position, since they have a talented and competitive roster, while also having the most cap space in the NFL and can give him the biggest offer.
Gerald McCoy started his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who made him the third overall pick in 2010 draft. He was an impactful player in Tampa, managing to record 297 tackles, 53.5 sacks, 21 pass deflections and six forced fumbles during his nine years with the organization.
Despite this, Buccaneers decided to release McCoy on May 20th, getting out of his contract which was set to pay him $13 million. Bucs’ ended up replacing him with former Miami Dolphins and LA Rams’ defensive end Ndamukong Suh.
