Veteran midfielder Fabian Delph, who played for Aston Villa and Manchester City, among other teams, announced his retirement from soccer on Tuesday. Delph is walking away from professional sports at the age of 32.

Delph spent the past three seasons with Everton but ended up only playing 41 games in all competitions during that time. He was a free agent from the end of 2021-22, and the lack of interest in his services probably played a role in his retirement decision.

The former England international announced his decision on social media.

“So today I announce my retirement with nothing but happiness and gratitude for what this beautiful game has given me,” Delph wrote on Instagram. “Massive shout out to my family, friends, players, and staff from the amazing clubs I have been fortunate enough to represent as well as the support I have had from the fans.”

Fabian Delph made his professional debut with Leeds United in 2007 and went on to establish himself as one of the brightest talents in English football. In 2009, Delph secured a transfer to Aston Villa and played six seasons for the club before switching to Manchester City.

While Delph played sparsely in Manchester, he proved to be a valuable team member due to his ability to cover multiple positions. He won two Premier League titles with City before leaving in the summer of 2019 to join Everton.
