English Championship team Middlesbrough has announced the appointment of Manchester United legend Michael Carrick as their new manager. He replaces Chris Wilder, who was dismissed from his job earlier this month.

This will be the former Man Utd playmaker’s first permanent managerial job. Since retiring from his playing career in 2018, Carrick worked as a coach under former Manchester United managers Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, going on to serve as an interim manager for the club after Solskjaer was sacked from his role. During his short term as caretaker manager, Carrick managed to remain unbeaten during his three games in charge of the team.

“I’m really excited to be here and to be part of a club with such a deep history and tradition,” Carrick exclaimed. “Growing up in the north-east myself I’m fully aware of what football means to people. It’s a real privilege for me to be in this position and to feel all the passion and enthusiasm you’ve got for the game and for Boro.”

Middlesbrough was the first club that the former center midfielder played for at the youth level, arriving when he was just nine years of age.
