After purchasing the team for $2.4 billion dollars earlier this month, new owner Steve Cohen has made his first big decision related to the future of the New York Mets.

Cohen has decided to have a familiar face rejoin the front office, hiring former Mets general manager Sandy Alderson as the president of the organization.

Cohen also confirmed that he has officially been approved by the MLB as the next owner of the Mets, adding that he has hired Alderson to “oversee all Mets baseball and business operations,” calling Alderson “a respected baseball executive” who shares Cohen’s philosophy of “building an organization and a team the right way.”

The main question that arises from this move is whether or not the Mets are going to be keeping current general manager Brodie Van Wagenen under contract. While some reports claim that Van Wagenen will be given a chance to continue in his role, others believe that the chances of Alderson retaining him in any capacity are not good.

Alderson served as the Mets general manager between 2010-2018, putting together a team that was able to reach the World Series in 2015.
