Former NFL and Arkansas running back Peyton Hillis has been discharged from the Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Florida two weeks after being admitted, his girlfriend Angela Cole revealed by posting a photo of herself and Hillis with the medical team that treated him.

“The amount of love and gratitude I have for the incredible team that took care of Peyton is indescribable,” Cole wrote on her Instagram post. “You all worked like a perfected machine with each and every one of you so kind, attentive, calming, and caring.”

Hillis was hospitalized on January 4 after reportedly being involved in a water rescue off the coast of Pensacola which involved at least one family member. Escambia County emergency services reported that four people—two adults and two children—were struggling in the water when a bystander attempted to aid them to escape. One person involved was transported to the hospital via helicopter, however, the police refused to disclose the identities of those involved.

Cole revealed that Hillis has been on a ventilator in intensive care before being taken off it at the end of last week.

Hillis played for four NFL teams, namely the Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, New York Giants, and the Kansas City Chiefs before ending his career in 2014.
