After spending 10 years with Green Bay Packers, linebacker Clay Matthews is off to a new challenge. The 32-year-old is headed to Los Angeles after agreeing to a two-year contract with the Rams. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the deal is worth $16.75 million.

Signing with the Rams will be a homecoming for Matthews given the fact that he played his college career at L.A. Coliseum during his days with USC Trojans.

Rams confirmed the deal on Tuesday via their official social media.

Clay Matthews entered the league in 2009 when the Green Bay Packers took him 26th overall in that year’s draft. He immediately cemented his place as the team’s main pass rusher and managed to record double digits in sacks in four out of his first six seasons with the team. During his time in Green Bay, Matthews helped the Packers to win the Super Bowl in 2010 while managing to earn several individual honors including six Pro Bowl appearances, one First-Team All-Pro honor, and PFWA NFL Defensive Player of the Year award.

Clay Matthews isn’t coming off a particularly accomplished season in which the Green Bay Packers missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season and ended the year with a 6-9-1 record. Matthews also wasn’t enjoying a great run on the individual level, posting a career-low 3.5 sacks per game.
