France defeated Morocco 2-0 in their semifinal clash on Wednesday night to book their place in the World Cup final. There, they will meet Argentina who silenced Croatia 3-0 the previous day.

Theo Hernandez opened the scoring in the 5th minute, while Randal Kolo Muani doubled France’s lead in the 79th minute by tapping in a ball from Kylian Mbappe, who dribbled past four Morocco defenders in order to find space.

While France will look to become only the third team in history to win back-to-back World Cups, Argentina will look to win their first World Cup since 1986, thereby gifting Lionel Messi his first World Cup victory in what may be his final appearance on the world stage.

In addition to winning football’s ultimate prize, the Golden Boot Award also remains up for grabs, with both Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe tied at the top of the standings. While both players have five goals a piece, it is Messi who is in the first place due to his three assists compared to Mbappe’s two.

Croatia is set to face Morocco in the third-place playoff on Saturday night while France and Argentina will meet in the final on Sunday night.
