Former South African player Gary Kirsten, who is being consulted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board said that he is optimistic about the future of Bangladeshi cricket.

The standard of cricket played by the Bangladeshi cricket team has improved significantly compared to what it was 10-years-ago. However, they are still a long way away from winning a major international trophy.

Bangladesh is currently without a coach after parting ways with Sri Lankan Chandika Hathurusingha in October. They have appointed Kirsten as a consultant in order to help them find a coach before their tour of the West Indies which will take place in July and August.

“I know Chandika did a great job with the team. I just want to understand what that was about and what made the team do well in that time,” said Kirsten. “Hopefully, in a couple of weeks, I will have someone in place to take the team forward.”

Kirsten is a South African cricket legend and also coached India to their World Cup success in 2011.
