San Francisco Giants first baseman, who delivered an excellent season in 2020 despite dealing with nagging heel issues, underwent surgery to repair the bone spur which was causing him pain all season long.

Belt, a fixture in the Giants’ lineup since making his debut with the team in 2011, had a bone spur removed from his right heel in hopes that it will alleviate the pain which made it difficult for Belt to run in the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign.

Despite dealing with pain and discomfort, Belt delivered a monster season in which he hit .309 with a .425 on-base percentage, smacking 9 home runs and recording 30 RBI. Although the Giants fell just short of the NL’s final playoff spot, he was a key factor in the club’s surprising season which saw them compete until the final weekend for a postseason berth.

It was a massive rebound campaign for Belt despite his heel issues, as he had finished with one of the worst offensive seasons for any first baseman in the league in 2019 after batting just .234 with sluggish power numbers.

The Giants expect Belt to make a full recovery by the time Spring Training 2021 rolls around and hope that he will continue his hot form next season.
