The New York Giants offensive tackle Matt Gono will reportedly be forced to end his career. According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Gono is dealing with a neck injury that prevents him from taking the field in 2022 and beyond.

Gono missed the entire past season on the sidelines after undergoing neck surgery during the offseason. He still managed to land a one-year, $1.2 million contract with the Giants in March as it appeared that his neck issues are a thing of the past.

The 26-year-old player entered the training camping in good shape before starting to feel some unease in his neck following the first padded practices. Gono ended up visiting the doctor who performed his neck surgery and learned that his playing days might be over.

The Giants have placed Gono on the exempt/left squad list and expect him to return to the team in the near future. He will undergo further testing at the team facility, but there is not a lot of optimism, according to sources close to the situation.

The team already moved on to bolster their offensive line depth by signing journeyman tackle Will Holden. The 28-year-old player spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and the Baltimore Ravens, among other teams, and has 27 NFL games on his resume.
