Quarterback Daniel Jones has reportedly decided to change agents ahead of the crucial stretch of contract negotiations with the New York Giants. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported over the weekend that Jones is severing ties with CAA and will have Athletes First as his new agency moving forward.

It remains to be seen whether the change will have a significant impact on the talks between Jones and the Giants. The 25-year-old player is set to become a free agent in March and is now looking to cash in on a good 2022 campaign.

The Giants rejected the fifth-year option on Jones’ contract last year after he produced three seasons of unconvincing football. But the Duke product bounced back in 2022, throwing for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. He also had 708 rushing yards and seven TDs on the ground, helping the New York team return to the playoffs.

The Giants’ front office and coaching staff previously said that they want to keep Jones as their quarterback moving forward. But whether that happens will depend on the kind of deal that the player and his new agency are looking to get.

Earlier reports have indicated that Daniel Jones is asking for a deal that comes at around $35 million annually. This will make sense for the Giants if they view him as a player that can consistently produce at a high level. If not, they can also use the franchise tag that would give them a more extended look at Jones in coach Bryan Daboll’s system.
