The New York Giants’ Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence will enter the 2023 NFL season with a new contract. The Giants confirmed on Friday they had signed Lawrence to an extension but didn’t disclose the details of the agreement.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the deal is for four years and runs through the 2027 season. It pays Lawrence a total of $90 million, including $60 million in guarantees.

Lawrence and the Giants have been talking about a new deal since the offseason started. The talks progressed slowly, prompting the player to stay away from the offseason program and the team to focus on the draft. However, once the draft wrapped up, the two sides returned to the negotiating table and quickly hammered out an extension.

After inking the deal, Lawrence became the third highest-paid player on his position in the league. However, according to the 25-year-old player, money wasn’t the key element of the negotiations for him, and he just wanted a deal that made him feel appreciated by the Giants.

“I didn’t have a set number in mind or anything like that, “said Lawrence. “I knew I just wanted to be respected for my production and my leadership around here.”

Dexter Lawrence entered the league as the Giants’ first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He has 213 tackles, 16.5 sacks, eight passes deflected, and four forced fumbles.

Lawrence hasn’t missed a single game since becoming a pro and has Pro Bowl, and Second-Team All-Pro honors on his resume.
