Borussia Dortmund coach Marco Rose confirmed on Friday that attacking midfielder Giovanni Reyna is expected to remain unavailable through injury for longer than was initially expected. This comes after the Dortmund and U.S. Men’s National Team player suffered complications to his thigh injury.

In addition to this injury, Reyna also incurred a hamstring injury while representing the United States in a world cup qualifier against El Salvador on September 2. With his tendons and nerves also affected, the 18-year-old has since been ruled out of action entirely.

While currently under rehabilitation, Reyna has experienced several setbacks during his recovery. “It’s really not foreseeable for me when he will be back in training with the team, I have to be honest”, Rose admitted. “But we hope that will happen before the end of this year.”

In all likelihood, however, there is a slim chance that Reyna would be able to return to action before the end of the year. Prior to being ruled out, Reyna enjoyed a strong start to the Bundesliga season, scoring twice in the first three games of the season.
